Over the last few months our team has been in South Africa and Nigeria sharing insights on various learnings we have gained and researched working in the East African creative industry as HEVA.
On 16th February 2018, our Managing Partner, George Gachara, spoke at the Business and Arts South Africa’s Research Colloquium. George spoke about HEVA’s experience investing in the creative industry and also shared the learnings we have gathered from multiple engagements in Kenya and in the region. Additionally, he shared reflections and insights from HEVA’s research, policy conversations and direct value chain interventions.
In early March our Finance and Investment Manager Wakiuru Njuguna spoke at the South African Cultural Observatory 2018 International Conference that was held on 7th and 8th March 2018. The Conference focused on sharing data around trends and issues in national and regional creative economies. Wakiuru presented insights on HEVA’s practices regarding finance and support for creative industries in East Africa. She also covered key learnings about the future of creative industries in the region.
Our Head of Support and Compliance, Kendi Kamwambia spoke at the Global Shea Alliance Conference that was held in Abuja, Nigeria from 12th to 14th March 2018. Kendi reflected on alternative financing and innovative ways of viewing collateral. This conference is one of the largest annual gatherings for the shea industry worldwide, bringing together international stakeholders from across the value chain to learn best practices, build new partnerships and launch innovative projects.
