In response to the COVID-19 pandemic being declared a national emergency, we put up this post explaining what we would do to adhere to social distancing as a team, and enhance safety for our beneficiaries, while ensuring that we still remain available for wider sector work, especially at this time.

In this light, we sought to understand the impact of the coronavirus pandemic through a needs analysis exercise, which generated responses from 510 creative and cultural industry practitioners throughout Kenya. We compiled and analysed all this information, and began our thinking into some strategies for the sector. We shared these findings with a diverse group of 21 industry leaders from varied sub-sectors who gave their comments, critiques and insights. This same group then validated the final analysis. We remain grateful to each and every person who contributed in these substantive ways to this publication.

We are therefore honoured to be able to share with you the report of this study, which we titled “COVID-19 Resilience: Creative Industry Options and Strategies”. It is available for download below. We are currently consulting, advising and working on its recommendations, in order to develop necessary interventions for our beneficiaries, our ecosystem and the sector. We will keep you abreast on the details of these efforts as they unfold.

We remain grateful to the 510 individual practitioners and companies from all over the country, across the creative and cultural sub-sectors, who responded to our call and completed the survey, giving us rich, nuanced data. We are also grateful to the additional 10 practitioners who were able to share more qualitatively over virtual meetings, giving us case studies that featured details of the changes in their day to day work.

We invite your questions, comments, insights and thoughts on the report, data and analyses featured: Kindly share them with us here.
